Follow these chick management tips to keep your chicks healthy and growing.
Tips to keep them healthy
Dip young chick’s beak in water upon arrival
Offer free choice grit #1 to aid in digestion
Supply 20-22 hours of light for the first 10 days
Begin with heat at 95 degrees Fahrenheit
Decrease temperature 5 degrees per week until reaching 70 degrees
Keep their litter dry and clean
Sanitize equipment frequently for chicks during the first few weeks to aid in disease control
Tips to get them growing
Keep segregated from laying flock
Limit light to 12 hours if possible

If using nipple waterers for growing chicks, locate them so chicks can reach them without having to look straight up
Tips for space, water and feeder areas
Space requirement for chicks:
0.9 sq ft./bird
Water requirement:
one 1 gallon water fountain per 50 birds
Feeder area requirements are as follows:
Hatch to 3 weeks: 1 inch/bird
3-6 weeks: 2 inches/bird
Over 6 weeks: 3 inches/bird
